Employee Spotlight – Meet Allison Rutters, Tier 2 Help Desk Technician

In this edition of our employee spotlight column, we are thrilled to introduce Allison Rutters, a valued member of our team at KiteTech. Allison joined us six years ago and currently serves as a Tier 2 Help Desk Technician, playing a crucial role in providing exceptional technical support to our clients.
Allison’s typical day kicks off at 7:00 am, where she handles incoming help desk calls and email tickets until the team’s morning huddle. During this meeting, she collaborates with the escalation team techs to discuss work-plans for the day, brainstorm troubleshooting solutions, coordinate vendor calls, and stay updated on important client updates.
For Allison, Baltimore, Maryland is home, and in her free time she enjoys playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinders, painting miniatures for gaming and card games, baking, reading, and watching movies and musicals with her wife.
To learn more about Allison, we asked her a variety of questions. Read on to discover her unique experiences, life lessons she’s learned, and much more!
What’s your favorite part of being a member of KiteTech?
The camaraderie has always been the best part of working at Kite Tech; we work close to support each other and make each other laugh.
What do you love most about your job?
I enjoy solving puzzles and coming up with creative solutions. Getting a problem that requires me to apply my working knowledge and experience is satisfying to someone who does that for a hobby.
What is the most important thing you have learned in the last five years?
Don’t take information at face value. When someone is relaying information to you they might not know what is important or relevant to you.
What’s the best vacation you’ve ever taken?
Going on a cruise for the first time in my 30s. I enjoy relaxing on vacation and being pampered and the cruise was all that plus being able to tour the tropics.
What is the best book you have ever read and why?
“Harrow the Ninth,” the second book in the Locked Tomb Series. This is a sci-fi/fantasy with excellent prose, dark humor and satire. It has amazing themes and is written in a unique 2ndperson point of view that throws off the reader and has an incredible context.
What book did you read last?
“Astrid Parker Doesn’t Fail” by Ashley Herring Blake.
What places have you lived in?
I was born and lived in Durban, South Africa.I moved to the UK and lived in Manchester most of the time and then London for about 4 years before moving to the US. I have now been in Maryland since 2014.
What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?
That they are right about who they are, and that it’s not insignificant
